The ultimate Christmas beauty guide
Doll up in sugar or spice this Christmas.
A lowdown on the hit looks this party season
’Tis the season to celebrate and look your party best. The vivacious and matchless Ojas Rajani holds forth on the prettiest party looks likely to set dance floors alight this season. “It’s going to be Betty Veronica time,” she says with a laugh. You could smolder in deep seductive vixen tones of reds and purples or giggle your way in ‘girl-next-door’ candy pinks and peaches.
The makeup trends likely to be hits this Christmas, says Rajani, will channelize the ’80s disco trends. “It’s all about textures and shimmer; “Think of face powders and blushes with shimmer, not the regular compacts.” Check out NYX HD Studio Photogenic Grinding Powder and L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique All-In-One Pressed Powder . Similarly textured, pigmented, baked eye shadows that add dimension will rule, she adds. “Look for smoky jewel toned eyeliner pots and versions of kohl in grays and jewel tones with flecks of sparkle. Pick eye shadows in jewel tones of silver, chrome, bronze and gold.” Nykaa recommends Bourjois Smoky Eyes Trio Eyeshadow, MUA Baked Merged Trio Eyeshadow and Maybelline The Colossal Kajal 12hr Smudge Free to rock the party look. She predicts plump, flashy lips and nails in wearable shades of plum, wine and reds.
‘No one wants to look like ugly Betty’
Rajani declares with a flourish! But no wants to look like a tart either! “The trick is to focus on one aspect of your overall look and play that up.” This means doing your nails to pick up one element of your outfit. Or underplaying your makeup if your dress is all bling and boom. Sparkly nails? Underplay your clothes. The idea is to reinvent yourself as you join the mad party whirl this season.
The ‘just back from a spa holiday’ look
This look is all flushed rosy skin that highlights just one feature. “Play up lips with a shade from red, wine or fuchsia tones.” Not in the mod for lippie? Just choose a red or pink berry inspired gloss.” Then contour your face for that chiseled, glam look. Go with metallic eye shadows in jewel tones of golden bronze, rust or copper and graphic thick, smudged eyeliner. “Play up your nails with the hottest shades this this season, icy blues, deep reds, corals, pretty pinks and sea greens.” Gals looking for a bolder pinkie statement can take their pick from dark grey, coffee brown or icy grey. Take your pick from Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter, Bourjois New Effet 3D Lipgloss , Deborah Eye Design Quad Eye Shadow (Shade 1, 5), Nykaa Pop Nail Enamel Collection and Freedom Bronzer Shade 110 Matte .
The girl who loves to party
“I simply love dressing up girls who want to have fun!” Rajani twinkles. If you love dressing up and socializing, your look should exude warmth. So the highlight is on it bright eyes, rosy lips and cheeks. “Start by sweeping on pearly shadow and lashings of mascara. Nothing ups your look like mascara,” declares Rajani. Brush a shimmer powder over your cheeks and then tint lips with a berry lip stain, finishing up with a peaches and cream blush. Wear your hair half-up, half-down. Then pin on a sparkly barrette or pretty hair accessory to complete your girlie glam look. Short haired gals could style hair into full, “touch me now” ringlets that frame the face. Check out Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadow, L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Papillon Waterproof Mascara, Revlon Touch & Glow Moisturising Powder, Maybelline Dream Touch Blush and Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm
The sophisticated lady of mystery
This is a woman who likes to stand apart from the jostling crowd. “The best way to start adding intrigue is a smoky eye,” says Rajani. “Line upper lids with a black as night liner. Try NYX Super Fat Eye Marker. Smudge and add a layer of purple or cobalt blue shadow followed by lashings of mascara.” Keep the rest of the look understated, just a matte face and burnt rose mouth. Flat iron hair to let loose tendrils fan your face. “You’ll have people falling over themselves to reach you,” Rajani laughs. We love Max Factor Smoky Eye Effect Eye Shadow (Shade Purple Dust) and L’Oreal Paris Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick (Shade Rambling Rose)
‘I just want to have a great time’ look
If you’re the kind who believes in living for the moment, luminous is the way to go; jewel tones, shimmer and glowing makeup. Start by dusting on jewel toned eye shadow in shades of purple, emerald, topaz or bronze-gold. Finish up by adding lashings of mascara, but no kohl. “Then sweep a luminizing foundation or compact across your face and a hint of highlighter on below the brow bone and under the jaw line” Smear of shimmer rose or coral lipstick and you’re ready to hit the dance floor. “Flat ironing strands show off your chiseled looks,” says Rajani, adding, “it’s a killer style that exudes confidence and sex appeal.” Nykaa recommends Maybelline Superstay 14hr Lipstick – Stay With Me Coral, Lakme Absolute Drama Stylist Eye Shadow Duos (Shades Blue Shadow, Purple Haze and Pink Wink), Lakme Absolute Face Stylist Foundation and Lakme Absolute Flutter Secrets Dramatic Eyes Mascara – Black.
